What we collect

FerryGrid has no visitor accounts, no contact forms and no newsletter, and it does not set cookies on the public site. Your choice of day or night mode is kept in your browser's local storage and never sent to us.

Our server keeps a standard access log entry for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page you came from and your browser and operating system version.

When you use a Book button we count the click: which route, which booking link, the page and the language. We do not store your IP address, your browser or anything else that identifies you with that count.

If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write.

Why, and on what legal basis

Access logs are kept to run the site securely, to find faults and to detect abuse. Click counts tell us which booking links are used. Maps and the wind forecast are loaded from OpenFreeMap and MET Norway so that we can show them to you. Emails are answered and kept so that we can follow up. The legal basis for all of these is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; nothing is used to build a profile of you, and there is no automated decision-making.

You do not have to give us any personal data to use FerryGrid. Without the access log entry and the map and weather requests the pages cannot be delivered or shown as intended.

How long we keep it

Server access logs are deleted after 14 days. Emails are deleted when the matter is settled, at the latest after two years. Click counts hold no personal data and are kept as statistics.

Who else receives data

Hetzner Online GmbH (Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany) hosts the site on servers in Nuremberg and processes the access logs on our behalf.

OpenFreeMap (an open-source map service run by Zsolt Ero, openfreemap.org) serves the map tiles, map fonts and map style through Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). Your browser fetches them directly, so Cloudflare and OpenFreeMap receive your IP address, your browser's user agent and the address of our site when a map is shown. No cookie is involved.

MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, api.met.no) supplies the wind and weather forecast. Your browser asks MET Norway directly, so it receives your IP address and the port's coordinates. No cookie is involved. See MET Norway's privacy statement.

Direct Ferries is our booking partner. A Book button takes you through our click counter to directferries.com or directferries.de. From then on you are on their site and their privacy policy applies, including the partner tracking that lets them credit the booking to FerryGrid.

Our email is handled by our mail provider, which processes it on our behalf.

If you follow a link to an operator's website, that operator's privacy policy applies there.

We do not sell personal data.

Transfers outside the EU

Hosting stays in Germany, and MET Norway is in Norway, which is part of the European Economic Area. Cloudflare, which delivers the OpenFreeMap maps, may process the request in the United States; that transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Cloudflare is certified. Requests from your browser send only our site's address as the referrer, not the page you are on.

Staff accounts

People who maintain the timetables have an account in our admin area. We keep their name, email address, role and a record of the changes they make; their login session also stores the IP address and browser, and failed sign-ins are counted briefly per IP address to stop password guessing. This is needed to run the service (Article 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Sessions end after two hours without activity, the change record is kept for one year, and accounts are deleted when someone stops working on FerryGrid.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data (Article 15), correction (16), erasure (17), restriction (18) and portability (20), and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest (21). Email info@ferrygrid.com; we answer within one month, free of charge. Because we hold nothing that identifies you beyond a short-lived log entry, we can only find a log entry if you tell us the IP address and roughly when you visited.

You can complain to the Croatian supervisory authority, Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (AZOP), Selska cesta 136, 10000 Zagreb, azop.hr, or to the authority where you live.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we update the date at the top. If we ever add a service that needs your consent, such as analytics, you will be asked before it runs.
